Fibre Laser Suits High-Speed Cutting Applications

JK Lasers, part of the GSI Group, has added to its range of JK fibre lasers with the new JK500FL, which is designed to process a range of materials with high accuracy and at a quicker rate. The JK500FL benefits from 500W CW output powers, single-mode beam quality and patented back-reflection protection. According to JK Lasers, approximately 80 per cent of metal cutting is for thicknesses up to 3mm and the JK500FL is well suited to address these applications.

Engineered to require minimal maintenance, the 500W fibre laser is supplied in a water-cooled, rack-mounted format for greater efficiency. The 500W FL is a modular system that is fully compatible with the standard range of JK fibre laser process tools for cutting and welding, including the popular scan-head system.

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved.
