New LED Drivers 'Will Enhance LCD Broadcast Monitors'

LCD broadcast monitors will be enhanced by new LED drivers developed by Amtel, the firm has said. The invention of a new kind of multi-string LED drivers will help enhance the performance of LCD broadcast monitors, electronics firm Amtel has claimed. It has unveiled details of the new drivers, which it said have a number of potential uses, including in the development of edge-lit LCD TVs, PC monitors and displays for military, commercial, industrial and residential use.

The company said the key feature was its efficiency optimiser technology, which enables LCD TVs to enjoy 10M:1 dynamic contrast in their pictures. Marketing director of smart power products at Atmel Tushar Dhayagude said: "Increasing LED adoption in LCD panels and lighting creates a tremendous opportunity for Atmel to leverage its industry-leading microcontroller architectures to push the envelope on efficiency, programmability, simplicity and solution cost."

Other new LCD innovations include Samsung's Wi-Fi fridge, which has an eight-inch screen on the door and can be used to access news and weather, as well as offering memo writing and photo displays.
