Automated Packaging Systems and Accutech Develop New High Productivity Mail Order Fulfillment System

Automated Packaging Systems and Accutech Packaging have combined engineering resources to develop a bag packaging system designed for speed and flexibility in high-volume mail order fulfillment applications. The new Autofulfillment™ SPrint™ System is fully customizable for a wide range of products, including apparel and footwear, bed and bath, home decor, healthcare products, automotive parts, hardware, plumbing, printed materials and anything that will ship in a poly bag.

The Autofulfillment SPrint integrates with Warehouse Management or Order Entry Systems to print, verify and package up to 15 completed bags per minute with a single operator. Up to five optional feeders/collators can be used to selectively deliver customer-specific catalogs, literature or other promotional items to the operator for hand inserting into the bag. An inline printer automatically produces the packing slip or invoice and inserts it into the bag. A 3-point scanning verification system ensures the accuracy of every order.

A field-proven, modular component design provides for easy serviceability. Remote diagnostic capabilities and technical phone support help to keep the system running at peak performance, all while backed by the industry’s largest field service organization.

Automated Packaging Systems provides the SPrint SidePouch® bagger and bag packaging materials, while Accutech has developed the operating system and software that integrates the infeeds, scanners and conveyor systems. The system includes an easy-to-use touch-screen control panel and on-board computer that stores all job setup parameters and offers remote diagnostics.

This mail order fulfillment system has been ergonomically designed for maximum productivity and fast changeover of bag materials, which come in sizes up to 24 inches wide, making them ideal for packing and shipping multiples or large, bulky items. SidePouch® bags are available in a variety of durable materials from 1.32 to 4 mil thick, including the popular EarthAware™ brand of biodegradable mailbags. All SidePouch bags can be pre-printed in up to 10 colors for brand awareness, with easy-open perforations or two-way tape for merchandise returns.

“The Autofulfillment SPrint system offers improved order processing throughput for single or multi-line orders with inline printing and inserting of the packing slip/invoice and targeted marketing materials, as well as printing, application and verification of the shipping label,” says Mike Keneally, Vice President of Accutech. Jim McFarland, Industry Specialist for Automated Packaging Systems adds, “This fully-automated system will increase productivity and lower packaging costs during non-peak periods, while having the flexibility to significantly improve service-level performance during peak periods.”
