SP Scientific Arranges Lyophilisation Webinar

SP Scientific, a specialist in freeze-drying technology, has scheduled a new Lyolearn webinar entitled 'Case Studies in Identifying and Correcting Failed Lyophilized Products'. Chaired by Dr Jeff Schwegman from AB Technologies, the webinar will take place on 28 June 2011 and is targeted at anyone involved in the development, management, quality control, scale-up, transfer and production of freeze-dried products that has, at some point in their career, experienced product failure.

The webinar will begin by discussing the thermal properties of products that can be determined through thermal characterisation studies. In addition, the correct identification of the failure through visual observation will be discussed. Using these two concepts, several case studies from failed batches, owing to poor formulations and/or poor cycles, will be presented and discussed with the participants to resolve the problems.

Understanding the scientific principles and physical characteristics of formulated products allows the development scientist/engineer to better troubleshoot and correct problematic formulations and/or lyophilisation cycles. SP Scientific's free educational webinars delivered by industry experts are devoted to freeze-drying topics and follow a 30-minute format for the presentations with a question-and-answer session immediately afterwards.

FUSE SIZING CONSIDERATIONS FOR HIGHER EFFICIENCY MOTORS

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved. However, if sizing at this level prevents the motor from starting, it may then be necessary to increase the fuse ampere rating and it then becomes important to know the NEC sizing limitations.
