Aluminium Enclosures Protect from Dust and Water

A new series of aluminium enclosures from Deltron provide a high standard of protection against dust and water, and will withstand prolonged immersion in water. These waterproof enclosures are rated at IP67 and IP68. The new Deltron 480 and 483 series of enclosures are rated at IP67 and IP68, as defined in the IEC standard 60529. IP68 is the highest grade of protection defined in this standard.

Deltron IP67 enclosures will withstand immersion in water to depths of up to 1m for 30min. The IP68 enclosures can handle depths of up to 5m for 1hr. All are certified to BS EN60529 1992. They are suitable for systems exposed to the most demanding environmental conditions in marine, industrial, food preparation, transportation and leisure. They can be supplied plain, powder coated or nylon coated, or can be machined and finished to exact specifications. DEM also offers a full box-build assembly service.

FUSE SIZING CONSIDERATIONS FOR HIGHER EFFICIENCY MOTORS

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved. However, if sizing at this level prevents the motor from starting, it may then be necessary to increase the fuse ampere rating and it then becomes important to know the NEC sizing limitations.
