Transducers Target Severe Industrial Environments

Variohm Eurosensor has launched a range of IP67-rated potentiometric linear position transducers for applications across severe industrial, construction and agricultural automation environments. The transducers have a compact yet modular rod actuated design that is easily customised with spring returns, central threads, flange plates and other options. The TX2 series, from Variohm's German distribution partner, Novotechnik, is available in eight standard measuring ranges from 25 to 300mm and has an independent linearity specification to 0.05 per cent with positional repeatability to under 10um.

Its IP67-rated usability under harsh conditions is aided with a double-sealed actuating rod and metal mounting flanges for maximum protection against dirt, dust and humidity. The standard TX2 includes backlash-free pivot head mounting with an angle of free movement of up to +/-12.5deg to compensate for misalignment. There are also numerous cost-competitive options for special mounting and design additions such as built-in springs and threaded rods. The TX2 series has a rated life of more than 50 million movements and employs Novotechnik's conductive plastic-resistance element technology that combines multiple printed-ink technologies and multi-fingered precious metal wipers with an elastomer damping mechanism to maintain complete contact under extreme shock conditions that are specified to 50 G for 6msec with similar vibration durability.

The TX2 series can be supplied with a choice of IP67-rated three-pin M8 connector or a standard 2m cable that may extended on request. Other options including signal conditioning power supplies, displays and indicators are also available. Temperature ratings for the connector option is -40 to 85C and for the cable option is -20 to 100C.

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays.
