QS Holding System Includes High-Precision Coolant

The quick-change capability of Sandvik Coromant's QS holding system for sliding-head turning machines can now be combined with high-precision coolant. The small-part machining of demanding, long chipping materials always creates issues with chip breaking, according to the company. With the introduction of directed nozzles, accurate coolant delivery is ensured, improving chip breaking and performance. Tool life is also said to be extended.

As the system can be implemented using pressures as little as 10bar (present on almost all modern sliding-head machines), the new coolant function is straightforward to apply and provides problem-free machining and improved component quality when performing turning, parting and grooving operations. A simple modification procedure can be implemented for sliding-head users who already own a standard QS holding system.

High-pressure coolant can be useful when machining difficult materials such as titanium, cobalt chrome, surgical stainless steel and heat-resistant super-alloys (HRSAs). The system is suitable for Citizen, Star and Nexturn sliding-head machines. The QS holding system, which enables rapid tool changing and reduced downtime, is available now with high-precision coolant.
