Mecmesin to Unveil Torque Tester at Interpack 2011

Mecmesin will launch the Vortex-XT, a touch-screen-controlled torque tester that makes fast routine measurements, at the Processing and Packaging International Trade Fair at Interpack 2011 in May. According to the company, which will be found on Stand FO4-1 in Hall 5 at the event in Dusseldorf, the new device brings quality control measurement straight to the point of manufacture. The Vortex-XT is described as an easy-to-use modern torque tester that has been designed to cut costs by improving production line efficiency and reducing wastage.

It can quickly measure stripping torque and release torque. It is able to identify bridge breaks and can help to avoid spinners. The device can also be adapted to test child-resistant closures and Mecmesin is able to offer bespoke fittings to match individual containers. The machine's simple setup allows manufacturers to test the clockwise and counter-clockwise torques of packaging components, such as the application and release torque of screw closures, with two clicks of the touch-screen interface. Utilising colour-coded results, the large, clear display enables the straightforward identification of pass/fail sample conformance.

The Vortex-XT is designed to make routine measurements quick, while still providing users with detailed results data as well as reporting capabilities, if required. Users have the choice of viewing a graphical 'live' display of the test for observational purposes or multiple test results in tabulated form, to begin making comparisons and, subsequently, to evaluate them in more depth with a choice of calculations. The data collected can then be exported to statistical process control software.

Up to five frequently used tests can be stored for quick access and initiation by different users, without the need for a high level of technical or test application knowledge. Password protection allows 'administrators' to alter test setup and template design, thereby avoiding any accidental changes to programmable functions. Rated to 10N.m, the Vortex-XT completes Mecmesin's range of three motorised torque testing systems, which also includes the basic Vortex-D and the Vortex-I computer-controlled test system.
