Aptifirst Details Dynisco Flow Melt Indexer

The Dynisco LMI 4000 melt flow indexer from Aptifirst is a precise instrument for the measurement of melt flow rate (MFR) or melt volume rate (MVR) in quality control and research applications. The LMI 4000 utilises a 32-bit microprocessor to provide test parameter control, self-diagnostics and digital calibration. The on-board computer controls and displays temperature to +/-0.1C using a PID control algorithm. Four melt-indexer models are offered in the LMI 4000 series, each with features designed to meet specific application requirements.

Dynisco's LMI D4001 melt flow indexers are designed to meet or exceed the ASTM D1238 specifications as well as international standards. They provide an accurate, cost-effective means of monitoring material flow characteristics for lot-to-lot consistency. The electronic package includes a 32-bit microprocessor, bright vacuum fluorescent display, push-button RTD calibration, 'smart keys' for ease of programming and capability of operation up to 425C. In addition to the previously available pneumatic weight rising and lowering system, an electric weight raising and lowering system is available.

This electric system is said to be suitable for applications requiring the use of heavy weights, but where shop air is not readily available. LMI D4001 offers an 'auto cut-off' feature that automates the manual ASTM D1238 test method 'A'. With this feature, a solenoid-driven knife automatically cuts the extrudate as it leaves the melt indexer die at operator programmed intervals during the test. This automated system removes the influence of the operator from test method 'A' and makes test results more repeatable.
