Offshore Europe 2011 To Focus On Sustainability

The Offshore Europe 2011 conference in Aberdeen, Scotland, will enable participants to learn, debate and challenge the ideas needed for the sector to establish a sustainable supply for the future. According to Samir Brikho, chief executive of Amec and chairman of the SPE Offshore Europe 2011 conference, recent events have covered the importance of health, safety, security and environmental issues in addressing the challenges of operations in ever-increasing water depths.

Brikho, launching the event's formal call for papers, added that the upstream industry is also faced with the challenge of overcoming technical and logistical pressures, as well as the new science and knowledge required. He said: 'Running through all our activities, onshore and offshore, are human factor issues that must be taken into account, in terms of facility design, staffing and operations.

'If the industry is to provide a safe, smart and sustainable supply, as well as to succeed in exploring and developing new territories and frontiers, it must challenge convention and discuss these issues,' added Brikho. The main theme for the Offshore Europe 2011 conference is 'Securing Safe, Smart, Sustainable Supply'.

Technical programme categories include: Facilities and Infrastructure; New Well Technology; Reservoir Management; Health, Safety and Environment; Exploration; and Carbon Reduction - the Upstream Contribution. The deadline for the submittal of papers is 10 January 2011. Alongside this technical programme will be a series of topical lunches and business breakfasts. The upstream oil and gas event - organised by the Offshore Europe Partnership, a joint venture between Reed Exhibitions and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) - will be held on 6-8 September.
