OKW Expands Unitec Enclosure Range

OKW has extended the Unitec range of sloping-front enclosures with the size S series, which is available in 12 different models with dual operating faces for face-to-face applications. The two inclined operating panels are mounted at right angles to each other, which allows simultaneous input of data on one side and readout on the other. The Unitec enclosures are moulded in off-white ABS (UL 94 HB) and consist of a top part, rear-facing front part and base panel.

The case parts interlock and are secured by two self-tapping screws. The size S models have external dimensions of 125mm x 177mm x 69/22mm, offering a more compact solution to the existing size M models, which measure 148mm x 200mm x 80/25mm. Both sizes can be specified with a battery compartment for 3V or five 1.5V AA battery cells. The battery compartment has a clip-on lid that can be screw fixed for added security. The Unitec cases are available with optional recess depths on the operating faces of 0.6mm for graphic labels or 1.4mm for membrane keypads.

These enclosures can be used for desktop or wall-mounted applications. A wall suspension element is available as an accessory, which allows the case to be mounted in different orientations. OKW can supply the Unitec enclosure with additional holes for pushbuttons, connectors and displays, plus silk-screen printed legends and logos, as well as EMC shielding.

FUSE SIZING CONSIDERATIONS FOR HIGHER EFFICIENCY MOTORS

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved.
