Rockwell And Cisco Develop CPwE Architectures

Rockwell Automation and Cisco Systems have collaborated to develop Converged Plantwide Ethernet (CPwE) architectures to support and accelerate network convergence. The companies have also teamed up to provide education, design guidance, recommendations and best practices. The new resources, comprising the Rockwell Automation Integrated Architecture and Cisco's Ethernet-to-the-Factory, provide users with the foundation to deploy the latest technology by addressing topics relevant to both engineering and information technology (IT) professionals.

They also address the cultural and technical challenges of Ethernet network convergence between IT and engineering. The two companies are publishing phased releases of deliverables to provide solutions (such as documentation, products, technology and services) to address convergence between industrial and enterprise networks. The release of Version 2.0 of the 'Design and Installation Guide', which is available for download from the web, includes improved performance data and increased granularity in the Manufacturing Zone, Resiliency testing for both Ring and Star topologies, Remote Access and Production Software integration. Future releases will deal with Resilient Ethernet Protocol (REP) and Wireless integration.
