Crouzet Launches Railway Safety Switches

Crouzet has launched a range of safety switches for railway applications, including joystick controllers, emergency-stop functions, door opening, medium-voltage circuit breakers and braking systems. The PBX Secure switches can be used as auxiliary safety contacts for devices such as medium-voltage circuit breakers, motorised disconnect switches and ground disconnect switches. In the field of industrial lifting, the PBX Secure is suitable for position detection requirements in the geared motors of lifting machinery.

The PBX Secure range complies with the following industrial and railway standards: BS EN 50124-1 for insulation co-ordination; NFF 16-101/102 (the French fire/smoke standard) for the classification of housing material certified I2/F1; EN/IEC 60947-5-1 for control circuit switchgear; and DIN 41 636-6 form F (standard on dimensions). The PBX also has CE, UL, CSA and CCC marking. VDE approvals are available on request. The PBX Secure is a safety switch that guarantees the forced opening of contacts even in the event of a short circuit and/or welding owing to an overcurrent.

Both of the switch's component circuits are electrically isolated (form Zb). The long over-travel actuator allows any tolerance deviations of the subassembly in which the switch is incorporated to be absorbed, resulting in limited maintenance adjustments. Michael Favat, marketing manager at Crouzet's Position Sensors business unit: 'When designing the PBX, our engineers wanted to limit the impact of wear of the mechanisms and the consequences in terms of equipment maintenance.

'Furthermore, a long over-travel optimises factory assembly by making the settings simpler, thus saving time for integrators,' he added. The range offers two levels of sealing in two identically sized versions to provide an exact solution to integrators' requirements: a standard IP40 version where the actuator is protected by a membrane; and an IP67 version that integrates a one-piece component comprising a membrane and a seal to protect both the actuator and the mechanism respectively.

Potting points insulate the link between the terminals, the housing and the cover. A range of accessories is available to add to the standard version, including a roller lever, mounting plates, protective covers and various types of terminals. Products can be adapted to meet specific customer requirements (special connections, special protective covers or special actuators) and customised logistics solutions can be created.
