Fischer Provides Connectors For Heart-Lung System

Fischer has supplied connectors for use in Maquet's Cardiohelp 9.4kg hybrid pump/oxygenator, to be used in intensive care, interventional cardiology and intra- and interhospital transfer. When designing this system, Maquet's engineering team required products that facilitated the creation of a heart-lung assist system that is so light and small that it can be carried by one person and used in a helicopter or vehicle. Fischer's connectors were selected due to their secure connections, durability and lightness, which were needed in order for Cardiohelp to provide an extracorporeal support for the patient's circulation and respiration, and guarantee adequate gas exchange to prevent heart and/or lung failure.

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved.
