Balluff Power Supplies Suit Industrial Automation

Balluff power supplies are easily integrated into control packages and offer the safety of power-surge protection for demanding industrial automation applications. The PS series is available in a range of 24V models with single- or three-phase input. Output current ranges from 0.75A (18W) to 40A (960W) - a size for most applications. Or, if users need even more power, they can simply connect multiple power supplies together in parallel.

Other features include built-in advanced overload and overvoltage protection, load regulation to +/-1 per cent, ripple/noise of less than 50mV on most models and adjustable outputs to compensate for differences in specific control needs. The mean time between failure is specified over 210,000 hours (24 years) while operating at published specifications.

All power supplies hold worldwide approvals for use anywhere. All models are din-rail mountable and simple to install. Recessed input and output screw terminals give protection from accidental contact. The range also includes 12 and 48V models.

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved.
