GYS Unveils Automatic Battery Charger for Vehicles

GYS has launched Startup 80, a three-in-one automatic battery jump starter, battery charger, and battery 12V tester designed to start petrol- or diesel-powered cars or light commercial vehicles. If the vehicle has a flat battery, the Startup 80 requires just a few minutes of pre-charge before enabling the vehicle to start. It has an automatic battery charger with overvoltage protection for the vehicle and audible polarity alert if connected incorrectly.

It is safe to leave to charge unattended and can be left connected indefinitely. It also has a three-stage LED display, showing the instantaneous state of charge of the battery. The onboard electronic protection means that there is no need for the battery to be disconnected from the vehicle during the charge. The unit comes supplied with fully isolated high-quality charging clamps.

FUSE SIZING CONSIDERATIONS FOR HIGHER EFFICIENCY MOTORS

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved.
