Galil's Pocket PLC Provides Fast I/O Handling

Galil Motion Control is offering a compact, low-cost Pocket PLC, which provides 32 digital and 16 analogue I/O in a 3.9 x 4.3 x 1.3in package. The RIO-471xx features a RISC processor for fast I/O handling. The RIO includes +/-10V analogue I/O, program memory with multitasking, PID process control loops, timers, counters, web interface, email alerts, data logging, Ethernet 100Base-T and RS232.

Each RIO-471xx unit is self-contained with numerous I/O including: eight analogue inputs, eight analogue outputs, 16 optically isolated inputs, eight high-power isolated outputs and eight low-power isolated outputs. Multiple RIO-471xx units can be distributed on an Ethernet network allowing unlimited I/O expansion.

Programming the RIO-471xx is simplified with two-letter commands and a full set of software tools such as Galiltools for programming and a Ladder Interface Software tool for converting standard relay ladder logic into Galil code.

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved.
