Touchless Rotary Position Sensor

Novotechnik's Vert-X 22 touchless sensors feature a permanent magnet secured to the rotating object, meaning there is no mechanical linkage between the shaft and the measuring system, reducing wear. Key specifications for Vert-X 22 include 0 to 360deg measurement range, resolution to 14-bit, repeatability of 0.1deg or better, and maximum hysteresis of 0.1deg.

Eight output options are available: 0.1 to 10V, 0.5 to 4.5V, 4 to 20mA, 10 to 90 per cent of power supply, SSI, PWM, Incremental and SPI. Redundant output versions are offered as well. Vert-X 22 series sensors are absolute sensors, meaning they retain their values even after power interruptions. They feature compact designs of less than 1in in diameter, sealing to IP68. The measurement angle is factory programmable.

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved. However, if sizing at this level prevents the motor from starting, it may then be necessary to increase the fuse ampere rating and it then becomes important to know the NEC sizing limitations.
