GRP Enclosures Resist Chemical Corrosion

Spelsberg has extended its enclosures range with a new line of heavy-duty glass reinforced polyester (GRP) products, suitable for use in harsh industrial environments. The GRP enclosures are offered in a range of sizes and boost application flexibility through a range of accessories and the possibility of CNC modifications, as well as a host of customisation possibilities. Spelsberg's heavy-duty GRP enclosures are designed to provide effective corrosion resistance for electrical and electronic controls in the harsh environments typical of the marine, offshore, petrochemical, paper and water-treatment industries.

Sealed to IP65 to protect against the ingress of dust and liquids, the GRP enclosures offer a robust construction with features such as an integral drip shield, to direct liquids away from the door shield. Spelsberg claims that GRP offers a high level of rigidity at minimal thicknesses, equating to increased protection for a wide range of housed equipment and instrumentation, but in a lightweight design. The enclosures are available in seven standard sizes, from 250 x 300 x 170mm up to 810 x 1,060 x 350mm. Doors can be left or right mounted and the hinging allows door opening to up to 240deg for ease of access into the enclosure.

Options include key locks for added security and a stylised window door providing easy visual inspection of interior components. This window is made from impact-resistant 3mm polycarbonate, permanently bonded in place to maintain the IP65 sealing. For extra flexibility, Spelsberg offers a wide range of accessories for the enclosures, including mounting plates, inner doors and modular kits, which can be readily installed using the moulded-in mounting rails. Spelsberg also offers in-house CNC modification and a full customisation service, enabling enclosures to be tailored to meet specific application requirements.

Modifications can include anything from milling, drilling and engraving to custom cable entries, brand logos or simple instructions. The customisation service allows the GRP enclosures to be supplied fitted with DIN rails, bus bars, electrical components, clip-on terminals and more.
