Connectors Feature Secure Push-Pull Locking System
Quadrant Connections is offering connectors from Damar and Hagen that are suitable for use in high-vibration and high-shock conditions, such as in outside broadcast vehicles and similar applications. The new connectors are the same size as, and are plug compatible with, common BNC sockets, yet they have a fast and secure push-pull locking system. Standard BNC RF connectors have a bayonet coupling, and these can be problematic in applications where they need to be connected frequently or where access is difficult.
The push-pull design of the Damar and Hagen BNC-PP and BNC/DS-PP RF connectors overcome these issues, and they are also more suitable for use with the latest HDTV technology. The BNC-PP connectors are available in 50ohm and 75ohm versions and are intended for analogue signal transmission, while the BNC/DS-PP 75ohm connector is intended for digital serial signal transmission. This patented design is completely compatible with a standard BNC interface and requires no special installation tooling. The gold plating of both the inner and outer conductor reduces 'skin effect', thus improving high-frequency properties, and the contact resistance is decreased permanently thanks to the improved corrosion properties.
In addition, the contact pressure of each connector's outer conductor is increased by using contact tongues under-laid with an additional spring washer. This improves operational characteristics, according to the company. The BNC-PP and BNC/DS-PP RF connectors are available in a number of versions, and cable connectors in both crimp and solder variants can terminate cable sizes from 2mm to 11mm in diameter.
