Online Analyser for Total Nitrogen Measurement
Electro-Chemical Devices has introduced the CA-6-14-A online analyser for total nitrogen measurement in water and wastewater treatment applications. The analyser performs a UV digestion and a colorimetric-based analysis, and measures total nitrogen in the range of 0-30.0mg/L. Total nitrogen is defined as the combination of organic nitrogen and inorganic nitrogen (NH4, NO3 and NO2) present in the sample. It is a common measurement in drinking water and in municipal wastewater effluent.
Weighing fewer than 40lb, the CA-6 precision online sequential sampling analyser is easy to install for the measurement of total nitrogen. It can be wall mounted or set on a bench. After the sample, waste and reagent lines have been connected to the analyser and provided with power, the CA-6 is ready to begin its pre-programmed analysis sequence. The CA-6 is available with up to four channels (optional), each from a separate sample point. A user-friendly menu structure and touch-screen interface is said to make it easy to access information or customise analyses.
As well as total nitrogen, the CA-6 utilises photometric differential absorbance to analyse more than 20 other common parameters, including aluminium, silica, phosphate, iron and sulphate. It offers repeatability of +/-2 per cent on the absorbance value if the turbidity. It operates in a temperature range of 5C to 50C. The CA-6 analyser is said to improve ISE measurements that require significant sample conditioning for measurement accuracy. It reduces the volume of conditioning chemicals required and minimises the associated waste. According to Electro-Chemical Devices, the CA-6 offers faster, accurate measurement requiring fewer consumables with less waste to reduce overall operating costs.
The touchscreen displays the measured parameter, analyser status, percent reagent volumes time and the menu bar, which provides access to the run, display, program, service, and help menus. The CA-6 analyser includes two alarm relays and a 4-20mA output channel that connects with PLCs or distributed control systems. It is enclosed in a rugged, cold rolled steel cabinet that is epoxy powder coated, and features two separate compartments to isolate liquids and electronics. The liquids enclosure houses all the components necessary for sampling and reagent flow, mixing and reaction stages (sampling pump, reagent micro-pumps and colorimetric reaction cell).
The electronics enclosure contains the main power supply, the controller printed circuit board assembly and the touchscreen interface. The CA-6 can be programmed with numerous analysis configurations, depending on the accessories and the number of micro-pumps mounted in the liquids enclosure. Customising analysis routines and accessing information easily accomplished via the touchscreen with the unit's simple menu structure and function commands.
