OKI Supports the Build a Dining Hall Project for a Primary School in Shanxi Province, China
OKI (TOKYO: 6703) today announced support provided by OKI and nine Group subsidiaries(*1) for a project to benefit Yuezhuang Primary School, located in Yuezhuang County in Shanxi Province, China. As a Plan Donor-tied Project organized by Plan Japan,(*2) this joint effort backed by nine local OKI companies involved the construction of a school dining hall and kitchen. A ceremony marking the completion of these facilities was held on March 27, 2012. Including previous contributions in 2001 and 2006, the OKI Group has now contributed on three separate occasions to school facilities in China.
Established in 1922, Yuezhuang Primary School currently enrolls 268 students from seven neighboring villages. Due to the elimination and consolidation of public schools, Yuezhuang Primary School is now the only primary school in the area and currently counts 213 boarding students among its student body. The purpose of the Build a Dining Hall project, launched in May 2011, is to provide a safe, hygienic environment at the school through the addition of a dining hall, kitchen, and lavatory. The project also provided education on nutrition for students, teachers, and parents. Backed by community participation, a school management committee organized by teachers, parents, and students took part in all stages of the project, including planning, execution, process management, and evaluations.
"The OKI Group began operating in China in the 1980s," says Hisao Suzuki, Senior Vice President, overlooking OKI's corporate philanthropy activities. "Since the 1990s, OKI has grown alongside China, establishing local footholds for production, sales, and development. OKI is now well-established in China, thanks to support from a wide range of stakeholders, including customers, partners, and communities. OKI chose to support the Special Plan Project to express its gratitude to all these parties and to commemorate OKI's 130th anniversary."
During the ceremony held at Yuezhuang Primary School, Ishibashi, President at OKI Electric Industry (Shenzhen), addressed students and school staff in a speech characterized by frequent praise.
The OKI Group is committed to systematically advancing its corporate social responsibilities based on the corporate philosophy articulated in the OKI Group Charter of Corporate Conduct and the OKI Group Code of Conduct. In 2010, OKI committed to the United Nations Global Compact as part of efforts to ensure responsible, responsive management as a global company. Moving forward, OKI will emphasize joint efforts with the countries and regions in which it pursues business activities, seeking to advance its corporate activities in the spirit of integrity at all times.
