Webinars Focus On Intelligent Sensor Management

Mettler Toledo has announced a series of on-demand webinars dedicated to educating viewers about the benefits of its Intelligent Sensor Management (ISM) platform. These online seminars are available 24 hours a day and can be accessed at the viewer's convenience. They focus on: greater availability of pH measurements; better measurement accuracy and reliability; troublesome calibrations at the measurement location; how to reduce maintenance costs; how to prolong sensor life; and predictive maintenance on pH measurement points.

It is estimated that around 25 per cent of the maintenance budget in process industries is absorbed by field instrumentation. In-line pH measurements can burden engineers with a high maintenance demand and frequent replacement of electrodes and their cleaning and calibration can take up to an hour per installation. With the ISM platform, Mettler Toledo said it has launched a breakthrough in pH measurement and maintenance.

FUSE SIZING CONSIDERATIONS FOR HIGHER EFFICIENCY MOTORS

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved. However, if sizing at this level prevents the motor from starting, it may then be necessary to increase the fuse ampere rating and it then becomes important to know the NEC sizing limitations.
