Toshiba Europe Unveils 3.5in Sheet Metal Frame

Toshiba Europe's Storage Device Division has launched its 2.5in (6.4cm) enterprise hard disk drive (HDD) - which supports data-intensive storage applications - configured to a 3.5in mounting frame. Following the launch of the 600Gb MBF2600RC 2.5in enterprise hard disk drive in February this year, the 3.5in sheet metal frame was developed to support increased customer demand for easier access to stable, reliable storage solutions such as small-form-factor HDDs with reduced power consumption.

Toshiba has developed the 3.5in mounting frame to allow companies with data centre space limitations to utilise the 2.5in form factor, without the efforts and time constraints of infrastructure replacement and installation. The 3.5in frame comes fixed with the 2.5in 600Gb MBF2600RC, which operates at 10,025rev/min. It enables customers to unplug their existing 3.5in drive and replace it by slotting the MBF260LRC in its place. The 2.5in enterprise HDD supports business-critical, power-conscious and data-intensive storage applications such as mid-range volume servers, mainstream storage array and blade and rack-mount servers.

In addition, it delivers all the benefits of small-form-factor technology, allowing for more cost-efficient energy consumption including a reduction in sound levels, better anti-rotational vibration performance and a cooler form factor. The device is fully compliant with RoHS regulation. The MBF2xxLRC 2.5in enterprise HDD with a 3.5in mounting frame is scheduled to ship to original equipment manufacturers and distributors from July 2010 and offers capacities of 300Gb, 450Gb and 600Gb.
