Skimmer Material Aids Oil Recovery In Mexico

Abanaki has reported that its Fuzzy2 oil skimmer material has been at work on the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico for 38 days and is recovering up to 385gal/min of oil from the water's surface. The Fuzzy2 material is attached to the surface of 30in-diameter skimming disks on a floating skimmer made by Crucial of Gretna, Louisiana.

It has a hairy surface that greatly increases its surface area, making it three times more effective at removing oil floating on the surface of the gulf than other available disk skimmer equipment, according to the company. Fuzzy2 can be retrofitted to virtually any brand of drum or disk type skimmer, making it possible for existing skimmers to triple their pickup rate.
