OTDR Aids Fibre-Optic Infrastructure Management

The AQ1200 OTDR optical time-domain reflectometer from Yokogawa's range of multi-field testers is designed to aid the installation, commissioning and maintenance of fibre-optic infrastructure. The instrument offers a range of optical measurement capabilities in a compact, handheld package measuring 216 x 157 x 74mm and weighing 1kg.

In addition to OTDR-analysis functions, test features include a fault locator for automatically finding faulty events, plus an optional-visual fault locator using a visible light source. A further option allows optical loss testing in conjunction with a built-in stabilised light source and optical power meter with a range of +10 to -70dBm or +27 to -50dBm. The Yokogawa AQ1200 incorporates an easy-to-read 5.7in colour LCD display and offers built-in multiple-language support.

It operates at wavelengths of 1,310 and 1,550nm over distances ranging from 500m to 200km and pulse widths ranging from 3ns to 10us. Other facilities include a simple connection-test option using the Ethernet Ping test, support for an external video fibre inspection probe and multi-core fibre test capability. The Yokogawa multi-field tester series also includes the AQ1100 MFT-OLTS optical loss tester.
