Click Enables Self-Maintenance Gas Monitoring

Gas Data has developed a self-maintenance Click system to give users greater flexibility over traditional fixed-unit gas monitoring systems. Designed to reduce downtime and costly annual service visits, Click allows basic operational maintenance to be carried out by any qualified electrician. A typical Click system installation contains all the necessary component parts, such as gas expansions, pumps, filters and switching valves that have a working or calibration life and would possibly need to be changed during traditional service visits.

Individual Click modules can be removed for maintenance. Valve and pump modules are supplied with status indicator lights and manual override switches to facilitate commissioning and fault finding. Gas Data, which recently achieved MCERTS approval for its entire GFM 400 Series range, has also recently seen its new BOS biogas monitoring system complete an independent 3,000-hour trial, which showed cost savings of 39 per cent on engine oil consumption and downtime.

FUSE SIZING CONSIDERATIONS FOR HIGHER EFFICIENCY MOTORS

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved. However, if sizing at this level prevents the motor from starting, it may then be necessary to increase the fuse ampere rating and it then becomes important to know the NEC sizing limitations.
