Chemineer Agitators Undergo Pharmaceutical Trials

Five Chemineer polished agitators, which are used for liquid blending, solids suspension and gas dispersion applications, have undergone a series of trials for a pharmaceutical company in Singapore. Designed by Chemineer at its UK base in Derby, using the company's Expert Software, the polished agitators have been operating in a pilot plant. Three-dimensional models were advanced to the customer for import into its software so that cable entry details were correct and also to eliminate any potential clashes.

CFD was also used to optimise impeller design and positioning. For gas dispersion and the reincorporation of gas from head space, Chemineer provided one agitator with three up-pumping Maxflow-W impellers. Additional designs included two impellers with low-level operation that were specially designed to avoid the bottom outlet valve.

FUSE SIZING CONSIDERATIONS FOR HIGHER EFFICIENCY MOTORS

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved.
