Centurion XP Hazardous-Area Cameras Now Used In US

Cordex Instruments has announced that its current Centurion XP series of digital cameras for hazardous environments is now being used in the US. The cameras are claimed to remove the need for time-consuming protocol, provide greater flexibility in use and make imaging easier, quicker and more cost effective.

Until recently, the design had only carried certification to confirm its compliance to the European Atex Directive for hazardous-area working. However, according to Marcus Halliday, general manager of Cordex, the company has now been awarded the CSA Mark for the Centurion XPC. As a result of this development, the US will have its own model of Centurion digital camera - the Centurion XPC - indicating its CSA compliance for use in Class I, Division 1 B, C and D hazardous (explosive) areas.

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved.
