Bright LEDs For General Lighting Applications

Everlight Electronics has launched the Shwo series high-power, high-brightness LED package designed for general illumination, flash, spot, signal, industrial and commercial lighting. The Shwo series is a surface-mount high-power device featuring high brightness combined with a compact size of 3.5 x 3.5 x 1.85mm. With the capability of 100~700mA driving currents, the Shwo family can be driven up to 3W. The minimum luminous flux (lm) of the 1W Shwo can be up to 100lm at 6,500K (CCT) or 80lm at 3,000K (CCT) when driven with 350mA current.

The minimum lm of the 3W Shwo can be up to 160lm at 6,500K (CCT) or 120lm at 3,000K (CCT) when driven with 700mA current. The thermal pad of this device is electrically isolated providing convenience in thermal and electrical design. The Shwo series also has the advantage of low thermal resistance, according to Everlight Electronics.

FUSE SIZING CONSIDERATIONS FOR HIGHER EFFICIENCY MOTORS

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved. However, if sizing at this level prevents the motor from starting, it may then be necessary to increase the fuse ampere rating and it then becomes important to know the NEC sizing limitations.
