Bench Furnace Anneals Steel For Relay Construction

Model 7000AM is an electrically heated bench furnace currently in operation for annealing M4 electrical steel used in the construction of protective relays and switches. Rated for operation to 2,050F, the 10 x 10 x 12in workspace is lined with a heavy-gauge flat-wall alloy muffle for use within a nitrogen atmosphere.

The muffle separates the chamber refractory and heating elements from the workload and inert protective atmosphere to achieve a lower dew point, which minimises scale and oxidation on the parts being treated. Heating element panels, located on the side walls and below the hearth, are designed with coiled Kanthal wire in V grooves to provide maximum radiation and fast heat response time.

The 7000AM unit is built with a silicon-carbide hearth plate to fully support the muffle, and conduct and transmit heat from the floor elements, providing uniform temperature. 6.5in of multilayered insulating firebrick and mineral wool block insure high energy efficiency with low outside surface temperature. A double-pivot insulated horizontal swing door with a ceramic gasket provides a complete seal against the muffle flange.
