AVX Develops 0.5mm-Pitch LIF Connectors

AVX has developed a range of 0.5mm-pitch low insertion force (LIF) FFC/FPC connectors for price-sensitive applications such white and brown goods as well as for medical and industrial test equipment. The Series 6284 connectors feature a staggered dual contact arrangement, which results in an LIF and facilitates the positioning and insertion of the FFC/FPC cable. According to the company, the design does not compromise mating security; although the connectors require an LIF (nearly 25 per cent less than other LIF connectors), their separation force is around double that of other designs.

With a low profile of 1.5mm, the Series 6284 connectors are available in eight, 10, 12, 15, 16, 20, 24, 26, 30, 40, 50, 55 and 60 ways; this can be increased for new projects. The operating temperature range is -40C to +85C, which can be extended to +105C on request to meet automotive standards. Andy Kotas, marketing manager for AVX/Kyocera Elco Connectors, said: 'The new 6284 LIF FFC/FPC connectors are primarily aimed at price-sensitive applications such white and brown goods, including audio/video/recording devices, set-top boxes and satellite receivers. 'However, the simplicity of mating also suits medical applications and industrial test and measurement equipment,' he added.
