Polymer Bearings Reduce Environmental Impact
Igus's 'video of the week' shows that, by replacing conventional bearings with Igus polymer bearings, OEMs can lower their environmental impact as the Igus polymer bearings do not require lubrication. As they are low maintenance, the dry-running polymer bearings can achieve cost savings and machine safety can also be increased. Igus supplies a range of alternatives to lubricated metallic plain and rolling bearings for a variety of applications.
The company is currently offering bearings to suit almost every application in 35 oil-free polymer bearing materials. The lightweight, plastic bearings also reduce fuel consumption and carbon dioxide output as the reduced weight leads to lower masses and lower energy consumption. In manufacture, less oil is used to produce the polymer than both aluminium and steel, meaning there is less contamination.
