Leuze AMS 300i Offers Laser Distance Measurement

Leuze Electronic has launched the AMS 300i, a laser distance measurement unit that can be used to determine the precise position of overhead gantry cranes and warehouse picking cranes. The unit, which will replace the AMS 200, is also suitable for transfer stations and dipping baths, such as galvanic plating lines. The current AMS 200 is available in two versions: an Interbus version that is utilised in warehouses serving many UK supermarkets; and a version that offers a combination of SSI interface to the drive, along with Profibus to the PLC, used in warehouses and crane applications.

Building on this, the AMS 300i offers a wide choice of communication protocols, which includes Profinet and Profibus as well as Ethernet/IP, Devicenet, Canopen, Ethercat and Ethernet TCP/IO or Interbus. The AMS 300i has the same distance from the mounting plate to the front of the lens. This, combined with the same laser time-of-flight technology, means that the unit offers a plug-and-play replacement of the AMS 200.

The AMS 300i can accurately measure at distances of up to 300m. Because the unit calculates speed itself and it can also be configured with boundary positions, customers report a 30 per cent cost saving in implementation of the overall system compared with competitor units that only provide data on the distance, according to Leuze.
