ITI Software for System Simulation Applications

System simulation specialist ITI has announced the release of the latest version of SimulationX software for physical modelling of mechatronic systems. The new version is user-oriented with numerous functional innovations and is now available in a 64-bit version. As well as considerable library enhancements, SimulationX 3.4 also contains the Torsional Vibration Analysis package with model objects tailored for simulations in the frequency domain.

With new interfaces in multi-body mechanics and controls, improved CAD import and full support of Modelica 3.1, SimulationX is said to be an ideal tool for those working in the field of system simulation. To meet the requirements that exist regarding the evaluation and certification of drive systems, SimulationX 3.4 contains a package called Torsional Vibration Analysis. This adds a model library for sensitivity studies and efficient modelling for steady-state simulation of drive systems to the SimulationX solution portfolio.

The linear and non-linear models in this package are tailored to the extensive steady-state simulation capabilities in SimulationX. Due to the open library structure, users can extend and modify this library in line with their own requirements regarding simulation and analysis. In v3.4, SimulationX supports the import of CAD data from Solidworks in addition to Pro/Engineer. Geometrical dependencies can be defined by an enhanced CAD component import. Once this is done, the model elements created are automatically connected in accordance with the defined dependencies, the positions of the model elements in the structure view being taken from the positions in the CAD component.

This enhanced manageability of the models results in a significant reduction in the manual effort required and the error rate on importing CAD models. The FEM Import Interface and the fully integrated Expertcontrol tools ECCST and ECICP are further features of SimulationX v3.4. Using the FEM interface, three-dimensional mechanical structures from FE programs can be easily imported into a SimulationX multi-body system. At the same time, any elastic structure may be integrated as an order-reduced sub-model.

Therefore, large motions in a non-inertial reference frame are permissible and model comprehensive is improved by the realistic visualisation of the deforming FE mesh. Users are able to simulate dynamical models exhaustively with this tool, ITI said. As for controls, the two Expertcontrol tools ECCST and ECICP are at the engineer's disposal to evaluate the best controllers in the early stages of product development. As a result, setting up controllers is said to be simpler and faster. SimulationX 3.4 incorporates various new model elements in the libraries of power transmission, 1D mechanics, multi-body systems, hydraulics, thermal fluidics and controls.

These improve performance for real-time models and provide more convenient modelling for automotive, offshore, subsea and marine applications. As a result of its full support of Modelica 3.1, SimulationX3.4 is said to be easy for traditional Modelica users to work with and ensures enhanced model handling as well as greater modelling efficiency. Moreover, improved interfaces are available for users of software tools such as Matlab/Simulink, Carsim, Modefrontier, Ansys, Comsol, Labview, NI Veristand and FMI (Functional Mock-up Interface).
