Rodriguez to Focus on Automation at PPMA 2011

RA Rodriguez will exhibit automation equipment, including plug-and-play robots and conveying solutions, at PPMA 2011, which is scheduled to take place on 27-29 September at the NEC in Birmingham. The company will demonstrate its ability to supply everything from simple plug-and-play robots or compact drives through to bespoke, multi-axis and programmable handling systems. At the event, RA Rodriguez will launch a conveyor roller solution, designed to give those in the food and beverage processing and packing industries a cost-effective alternative to stainless steel rollers.

Also new at the show will be the latest-generation Universal Robot, a six-axis robotic arm that is claimed to be suitable for smaller UK manufacturers. Appearing for the first time in the UK at PPMA, the Universal Robot Series 3 incorporates additional software features that enhance its flexible application and a 50 per cent lighter-weight teach pendant and touchscreen display. The company will also be able provide more information on a new longer-reach version of this plug-and-play robot that is scheduled for launch in mainland Europe later this year.

RA Rodriguez is the factory representative for several manufacturers that serve the machine building sector, particularly those involved in rotary bearings and linear motion. The company will showcase a handling system from linear motion and automation specialist IEF Werner that is designed to provide the orderly and gentle transfer of items to or from packaging lines, often integrating end-of-line processes such as product marking. Also new is an energy-efficient pallet system, primarily designed for light pallets, which can be integrated into assembly lines and combined with existing product handling systems such as robots.

Called the Ecostack, it can cost as little as GBP7 per year to run without handling for a single shift. Driveline products that are suitable for use in machinery for food processing tasks belong to RA Rodriguez's Framo range. The systems include the Compacta slip-on geared motor with built-in limit switches. This actuator is said to be suitable for reverse motion and is available in four sizes with torques up to 600Nm. The Mini range, meanwhile, incorporates compact linear actuators with acme screws that are sealed to IP65.

RA Rodriguez claims that minimum space requirement is also the main selling point of the Linearchain, which is capable of long strokes despite its small size. Taking full advantage of Framo's manufacturing capabilities, RA Rodriguez is able to meet custom drive requirements.
