Eye Spyraflo - a Look at Bearing Solutions - at Last a Competitive Washdown Bearing

Micromech is pleased to introduce from Spyraflo a Self-Aligning, Wash-Down, Mounted Bearing. FDA compliant materials are used throughout the design of Spyraflo's Pillow-Block and Housing-Flange range of Wash-Down, Self-Aligning, Mounted bearings. In many cases they are the bearing solution for food, drink, dairy product and pharmaceutical packaging and processing applications.

The critical features of these innovative bearings are:
  • ±5° static self-alignment
  • Corrosion resistant
  • FDA compliant materials and finish
  • Lower profile and narrower than comparable self-aligning ball bearings
  • Lightweight
  • Clean lines and easy to install
These unique bearings use Spyraflo’s electroless nickel plating, clever designed pillow-blocks and housing-flanges that combine being lightweight with clean lines so creating dimensional consistency. The block is made of sintered aluminium, the retainers are of 303 stainless steel and Delrin® acetal plastic spherical bearing inserts complete the washdown features. The profile and performance of Spyraflo Wash-Down, Mounted bearings is a very cost effective alternative to often expensive mounted bearing challenges in food and pharmaceutical applications.

FUSE SIZING CONSIDERATIONS FOR HIGHER EFFICIENCY MOTORS

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved.
