Molex to Showcase Brad® Automation Solutions at Automation Fair 2011

Molex Incorporated will demonstrate its commitment to the Rockwell Automation Encompass Partner Program at Automation Fair 2011 in Chicago, Illinois, November 16 – 17. For 20 years Molex has partnered with Rockwell Automation and exhibited at every Rockwell Automation Fair event. This year the company will display a range of Brad® automation products and offer several live demonstrations in Booth 201. In addition, Michael Frayne of Molex will provide a high-level technical presentation in room W470B on November 16 and 17 at 9:00 a.m. entitled Networks: Benefits of Using a Molex Remote Network Master, Including Premier Integration.

“Molex is dedicated to our partnership with Rockwell Automation, which is evidenced by our 25 Brad automation products in the Encompass Program including PLC/PAC communication modules, remote scanners, network interface cards and diagnostic solutions,” said Michael Frayne, global product manager, Molex. “Our long history of innovation has created value for the Molex and Rockwell Automation partnership and for our shared customers.”

Molex automation products are offered as a bundled solution with an extensive range of industrial network protocol options designed for the advanced-manufacturing needs in a variety of markets including industrial, robotics, material handling, automotive, food and beverage and packaging. On display in the booth will be several products including the Brad SST™ Remote DeviceNet* Scanner, the Brad SST™ PB3 Remote Module for PROFIBUS and the eNetMeter Portable Test Unit (PTU).

The two live demonstrations will reinforce the seamless integration of Molex products into Rockwell Automation systems.
  • Remote Scanner and Diagnostic Demonstration: Includes the Brad SST Remote DeviceNet Scanner, and recreates a series of “real-world” network disruptions to illustrate how the eNetMeter DN diagnostic tool can detect these issues within a DeviceNet network. It will also showcase how Rockwell Automation’s FactoryTalk View and PanelView 1000 can be used to access eNetMeter data.
  • PLC/PAC Demonstration: Illustrates how the Brad SST communication modules can be fully integrated into the Rockwell architecture to provide users the best solution for their networking needs. Included will be a demonstration of how the Brad SST PB3 remote module uses EtherNet/IP to bring Profibus I/O to a Rockwell Logix controller.
Michael Frayne’s technical presentation will center on the benefits of using a Molex remote network master. Attendees will learn what a remote network master is, and how it is used on various PROFIBUS and DeviceNet networks. The main benefits covered include greater flexibility, lower cost and ease of use. Important usability aspects will be presented including Premier Integration within Rockwell Automation's Integrated Architecture as well as Molex software tools that facilitate quick configuration, commissioning and on-going diagnostics.

FUSE SIZING CONSIDERATIONS FOR HIGHER EFFICIENCY MOTORS

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved.
