Balluff Introduces Range of Ultrasonic Sensors
Balluff has introduced a range of ultrasonic sensors for applications such as object detection, distance measurement and sensing powdery and liquid media. The sensors do their job regardless of the colour, transparency or surface composition of the object, continuously and accurately. They can even operate in difficult light conditions, such as in dark, opaque or transparent areas; equally, reflecting objects are no challenge. According to the company, its ultrasonic sensors can also be used in dusty, humid and misty environments.
In addition, sensors featuring an IP 67 enclosure rating can replace multiple traditional sensors or provide additional distance information, since some versions in the cylindrical M30 housing feature an analogue output with two extra switching points. Ultrasonic sensors with M12 housings are not only ideal for detecting small parts, but also for the tightest mounting spaces. Their high resolution and minimal blind zone ensure high precision, according to Balluff.
At close range, they can detect virtually any material, even in critical environments, such as fog, steam, dust and dirt. With their stainless steel housings, these sensors can operate in harsh conditions, while the larger version in the M18 housing offers sensing ranges of up to 1,500mm. Some models can take over the function of multiple sensors. One or two switching points can be set on one ultrasonic sensor, an analogue measurement can be taken or one analogue output signal can be combined with two switching points.
Selected Balluff ultrasonic sensors can be synchronised, with the advantage that sensors that are located adjacent to each other do not exhibit mutual interference. For long ranges, there is also a maxi-sensor with optional switching or analogue output.
