NKK ANNOUNCES SHAFT ACTUATED OPTION FOR 10MM SMT DIP ROTARY SWITCHES
NKK Switches, the world’s leading designer and manufacturer of innovative electromechanical switches, today announced it has expanded its FR Series of 10mm ultra-thin, surface mount, DIP rotary switches to now include a shaft actuated option.
Where previous versions of SMT FR Series devices were only available with screwdriver actuation, the FR02 shaft actuated version enables more convenient hand actuation, while still retaining the ability to be adjusted with a flat tipped screwdriver.
With a height of just 3.8mm, FR Series devices also deliver the lowest profile in the industry and allow close stacking of PC boards.
The detent mechanism of the FR Series gives a crisp, positive action providing accurate switch setting. Actuators are fully rotational and can be operated either clockwise or counterclockwise.
Ten-position decimal and 16-position hexadecimal configurations are available in real or complement codes. Highly visible legends with an arrow to indicate position provide trouble-free code setting whether shaft or screwdriver actuated. Color-keyed actuators identify codes.
The cam activated movable contact and gold contacts ensure contact reliability and continuity. The electrical rating is 100mA @ 5V DC while switching, and 100mA @ 50V DC when not switching. The operating temperature range is negative 25 degrees Celsius to positive 85 degrees Celsius, enabling a wide range of applications.
These devices are straight mount and feature gull wing terminals. Gull-winged terminals deliver mechanical stability during soldering and simplify solder joint inspection. The coplanarity tolerance zone is 0.15mm maximum, the allowable distance between all considered surfaces in two parallel planes.
FR02 devices are environmentally friendly, meeting the RoHs directive restricting the use of hazardous substances. The heat resistant resin materials are UL94V-0 and allow for infrared convection reflow soldering.
Packaging for FR02 switches includes a tape-reel of 200 pieces for shaft actuated models or 500 pieces per tape-reel for screwdriver actuated models. Stick tube packaging of 50 pieces is also available.
