Omni Plastics Selects Eriez Round Grate Magnets
Eriez Magnetics has supplied Omni Plastics with six Xtreme Rare Earth round grate magnets to enhance the purity of its injection-moulded plastic parts for the medical and electronics sectors. For precision and cleanliness, Omni requires completely uncontaminated raw materials in its processes. Omni's raw materials are predominantly plastic, purchased from major resin manufacturers, and it will occasionally grind parts that have been rejected.
Regrind can then be used for some non-medical and non-pharmaceutical customers. To ensure product purity and prevent costly equipment damage, metal contamination must be removed from the regrind. Based on Eriez's recommendations, Omni installed six high-temperature Xtreme Rare Earth 6in-diameter round magnetic grates to replace older magnets installed on its lines.
The Eriez grates were up to 30 times stronger than its previous magnets, and they are positioned in the material hoppers that feed Omni's injection machines. In this position, they effectively prevent ferrous and small, weakly magnetic contamination, such as hardened stainless steel, from damaging injection screws and barrels. The Eriez Grates have made the Omni manufacturing process run more smoothly, with less downtime due to plugged nozzles and gates.
