Planetary Gearheads Suit Harsh Environments

Heason Technology has introduced the Aquatrue range of all stainless steel, washdown-grade planetary gearheads from its manufacturing partner Thomson. Aquatrue is designed for high-precision positioning in wet-cell processing applications in food and beverage, chemical and pharmaceutical production, caustic cleaning and other harsh-environment areas where frequent high-pressure spray or corrosive environments would reduce the life of standard-grade gearboxes The low-backlash gearboxes have a precision of 13 arc/min, four nominal frame diameters from 60 to 160mm, output torque to 875Nm and ratios from 3:1 to 10:1.

With high radial and axial load capacity and efficiency to 93 per cent, the Aquatrue design includes silicone gasket sealing and is supplied with IP66/67 or optional IP69K for total protection against close-range high pressure spray. The 304 grade stainless housings have no external seams or corners that can harbour dirt or bacteria. This protection eliminates the need to provide additional enclosures to isolate the gearhead in harsh-environment applications. Heason Technology also supplies a range of washdown- and food-grade servomotors from its distributor partner Kollmorgen, a sister company to Thomson. Part of the Kollmorgen AKM range, these precision servomotors include IP67 sealing with a 2K polyurethane external coating for maximum protection against alkaline and acid solutions, in addition to stainless-steel hardware on all precision surfaces.

Washdown- and food-grade versions are available in motor-frame sizes two through six, with output torques up to 25Nm. Heason Technology claims they are a cost-effective solution for motion control in food and beverage production, packaging machinery and many other applications where washdown is essential. The AKM range has BISSC (US Bakery Industry Standards Committee) certification, and is available in 90VDC and 180VDC in 1/4 and 1/2 HP ratings and speed to 1,750rpm.
