Metal-Cored Wire Developed for Thin-Plate Welding

ESAB's Coreweld 46 LS metal-cored wire has been developed for the welding of thin plate with a minimum thickness of 1mm. It provides fabricators with minimal silica islands and a substantially faster and higher-quality welding solution compared with solid MAG wire, according to the company. The advantages relative to solid wire relate to the wide spray arc parameter envelope that starts as low as 160A.

Switching from solid wire to Coreweld 46 LS will in most cases require no change in the positioning of the welding gun so the conversion time is limited to the optimisation of welding parameters. Coreweld 46 LS is available in 225kg Marathon Pac bulk drums for major downtime savings compared with using standard 300mm-diameter spools.
