RZ Relay For Use In Energy-Management Systems

Easby Electronics is offering Tyco Electronics' RZ relay for use in energy-management systems, household appliances, boiler control, timers and garage-door control. Features: one pole 12/16A - one CO or one NO contact; DC coil 400mW; 5 kV/10mm coil contact, reinforced insulation; ambient temperature 85C; hot version for 105C; product in accordance to IEC60335-1. At 85C ambient temperature and 16A switching current, 50,000 cycles are VDE approved and UL recognised.

The RZ relay range is comprised of single-pole relays with normally open or changeover contacts and offers a choice of AgNi or AgSnO contact materials. Standard 85C ambient-temperature models are available, as are 105C versions and models with transparent covers. The rated coil power is 400mW. The product fulfills the glow-wire test according to IEC60335-1 and is RoHS compliant.

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved.
