SAF Tire Pilot Monitors Correct Tyre Pressure

SAF-Holland is offering the SAF Tire Pilot, which monitors the correct tyre pressure on tractor-trailer units, as a retrofit kit. With a 40-ton articulated vehicle, the rolling resistance of the tyres accounts for around 30 per cent of the diesel consumption. Around 50 per cent of the rolling resistance is caused by the tyres on the trailer.

Monitoring the correct tyre pressure is therefore a simple and efficient way to control the operating costs of the vehicle fleet. The SAF Tire Pilot permanently monitors the pre-set pressure of the trailer tyres. If the pressure decreases, the system automatically raises it again to the preset pressure level. As a result, SAF-Holland said the SAF Tire Pilot can save diesel and help the tyres. This extends their service life and reduces the failure risk of the entire tractor-trailer unit.
