Plastic Connectors Ideal For Laboratory Equipment

The 430 series of circular connectors from Binder is a plastic, sub-miniature version of the 440 series that is ideal for laboratory and medical equipment, instrumentation and communication systems. The connectors utilise Binder push-pull technology and are made from polyamide. The compact, lightweight and high-performance circular connectors are waterproof to IP67 and shielded with good EMI protection and are a viable, low-cost alternative to the traditional and expensive metal push-pull connectors.

Binder push-pull technology is said to offer simple, fast and convenient mating even in areas of restricted access, while ensuring against accidental disconnection and providing a high level of vibration resistance. Cable sizes from 3.5mm to 5.0mm diameter can be accommodated and the 430 series is available in three-, four-, five-, seven-, and eight-way contact arrangements. The current rating is up to 4A and the contacts are gold plated with a minimum of 500 mating cycles.

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved.
