Invensys DCS Workstations Meet Achilles Standards

Invensys Operations Management has announced that its Foxboro I/A Series distributed control system (DCS) operator workstations have passed the Achilles Cyber Security Certification test. The testing was conducted on the Foxboro I/A Series Model P92 Workstation for Windows hardware and I/A Series AW70 human machine interface (HMI) software for the Microsoft Windows XP operating system, including I/A Series Foxview, Foxalert, Alarm Manager and System Manager applications.

As proposed by the ISA99 security standard, an HBD is a general-purpose device running a general-purpose operating system capable of hosting one or more applications or data stores. Examples include HMIs, engineering workstations, historian servers and domain controllers. 'The testing conducted using the Achilles Test Suite covers the most common cyber security threats,' said Ernie Rakaczky, Invensys Operations Management security programme manager.

Invensys Operations Management also recommends that customers assess their overall cyber security capabilities as part of an ongoing security and robustness programme for computerised industrial systems. Invensys can assist customers with security-related services.

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved.
