Defect-Tracking Software Has Good Eye For Quality

ATS offers its Inspect Visual Defect Tracking System software to manufacturers who are looking to identify potential recurring product defects and ensure product quality. Inspect can also be used for health and safety audits, supply-chain management, process monitoring and plant usage data. The software uses product images, schematics and drawings to make the data-collection procedure easier. The screens are designed by the user and the appearance and the ergonomics of the data collection can be prepared to suit existing procedures, albeit they would now be electronic and paperless.

Traditional methods have involved paper-based systems whereby an inspector or operator has populated checklists, which may include lists of parts, names, defects, corrective actions and signature to acknowledge the inspection. Reporting on collated quality data is presented within the SQL database and using Internet Explorer and the Report Manager offers nearly 100 standard reports to enable the tracking of defect data and traceability of when and how it occurred in the first place.

The use of graphical reports enable the user to easily identify the most frequently occurring defects - these are often regarded as 'measle' charts. It can also be used on PDAs and tablet PCs in order to provide a portable solution. This is particularly useful for roving audits. Inspect uses current IT technology and is compatible with MSSQL and ORACLE.

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved.
