Bias Controller Targets Digital Telecom Systems

The MBC-DG-BT Mach-Zehnder modulator bias controller is ideal for digital telecom and pulse applications. While it can be used for analogue applications, the low-frequency dithering signal may be considered unwanted in some analogue transmission cases. The MBC-DG-BT is a continuously tunable bias controller, which means that the user can lock the operating point at MIN, MAX, Quad+ and Quad-, but also at any point of the MZ transfer function It is very stable, allowing for high extinction ratio, has a low sensitivity and can lock even with an optical power down to -30 dBm.

It can use the internal modulator photodiode, or a photodiode external to the modulator. It can also be supplied with the PD/TAP option - a photodiode with a five per cent PM tap coupler - if the modulator does not feature an internal PD, or for some low-repetition-rate pulse applications.
