Baumer Pressure Transmitter Ensures SIL2 Safety
Baumer's PFSX pressure transmitter with SIL2 certification is suitable for water treatment, energy generation, chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical and food and beverage applications. The pressure transmitter has been developed according to the IEC 61508 standard. The measuring instrument comes with a 4-20mA analogue output and two galvanically insulated relay outputs with integrated test functions for alarm purposes.
The PFSX can measure pressure ranges from 0-1bar up to 0-400bar with an accuracy of +/-0.5 per cent of the full scale. The pressure transmitter has a four-digit red LED display (measuring 8mm in height) with two set points. It is fully programmable on site without any additional tools. All parameters are password protected. The SIL2 approval is based on the safe failure fraction (SFF) of 98 per cent and the hardware fault tolerance (HFT), which is zero.
The sensor architecture ensures SIL2 safety without the need to use two pressure switches to ensure redundancy. For applications in hazardous areas, the transmitter is also available in Atex Ex ia IIC T5/T6 and Atex II 1G versions. These requirements cover general safety management systems, specific product design and safety-compliant process design, with the aim of avoiding both systematic design faults and random hardware failure.
